We had a group of four birders and did a half-day tour with Stefano in early May (late spring for Malta). We had two birders and two non-birders, and Stefano was patient will all of us. We were there past prime birding time, yet Stefano had great eyes and ears and found us plenty of birds – about 25 species (with 20 of those Lifers!). Highlights included Red-footed Falcons, Spotted Flyercatchers, Golden Orioles, Black-winged Stilts, Little Ringed Plovers with chicks, a great view of a Wood Sandpiper, the Blue Rock-Thrush (national bird of Malta), Greater Short-toed Larks, Curlew Sandpipers, and Sandwich Terns. My wife and I were planning to spend the week going around to the areas that Stefano showed us in half a day! We will definitely go birding with Stefano if we visit Malta again!
